El abandono de animales es una verdadera lacra a nivel mundial, con miles y miles de muertes de inocentes perros, gatos, ect, que son desechados a su suerte sin que haya un motivo justificable para tal fin.
Las estadísticas son demoledoras: alrededor de seiscientos millones de mascotas son abandonadas cada año. En EE.UU son 4 millones de perros sin hogar. En el Reino Unido llega a ser tan alto como 130.000.
Según PACMA (Partido Animalista):
España es uno de los países de Europa donde mayor número de animales se abandonan cada año. Las cifras ilustran claramente la magnitud de este problema: según el estudio anual de la Fundación Affinity, en 2009 se recogió un animal “de compañía” cada 3.5 minutos, entendiendo como tal solo a perros y gatos y no a otras especies “más exóticas”.
Esta trágica situación existe porque:
- Hay una muy alta tasa de abandono de animales de compañía.
- Baja tasa de esterilización de animales de compañía.
- Más y más mascotas son criadas, a menudo bajo condiciones completamente crueles, por las industrias que tratan de hacer dinero sin importarles el bienestar de los animales con los que se lucran. Se saber que, cuando un cachorro no es comprado, es eliminado porque ya "no sirve."
- No existe suficiente gente para ayudar a los animales, pocos recursos para fundar más protectoras, etc.
Para ayudar, podemos difundir el conocimiento de la trágica situación de abandono animal y sus consecuencias, y llegar al corazón de tantas personas como sea posible, así como promover la adopción.
