El cementerio de mascotas más antiguo del mundo revela 585 animales muertos por lesiones
Uno de los últimos descubrimientos en materia animal es el del cementerio de mascotas más antiguo del mundo hasta la fecha, el cual ha desvelado algunas curiosidades interesantes y sobre todo ha llamado la atención por el hecho de que de los 585 animales encontrados en esta necrópolis egipcia, la mayoría había muerto por diferentes lesiones.

Es bien sabido que tanto los perros como los gatos han sido siempre compañeros inseparables del hombre, y de hecho, se han observado multitud de muestras de ello en las diferentes familias de distintas culturas en la antigüedad.
De hecho, uno de los últimos descubrimientos de un grupo de arqueólogos de la Academia de Ciencias de Polonia, ha logrado dar a conocer una nueva necrópolis en Egipto, la cual se caracteriza por ser considerada en estos momentos como el cementerio de mascotas más antiguo del mundo, o al menos de cuantos se han descubierto hasta la fecha.
Este cementerio de mascotas se encuentra ubicado en Berenice, en la zona de la costa del Mar Rojo, y tras las primeras observaciones que se han realizado, se puede contemplar que el concepto actual que tenemos acerca de los animales de compañía, ya se tenía hace 2000 años, con lo cual en este sentido las cosas no han cambiado demasiado.
En el interior del cementerio de mascotas más antiguo se encontraron un total de 585 animales que incluyen perros, gatos y babuinos.
Todos ellos se calcula que fueron enterrados entre los siglos I d. C. y II d. C., además de que es evidente que la gran mayoría fueron enterrados con un cierto aprecio o cariño por parte de sus propietarios, ya que muchas de estas tumbas o fosas estaban muy bien diseñadas e incluso incluían tejidos y piezas cerámicas que se enterraron con estas mascotas.
De hecho, también se han podido encontrar conchas, cristales e incluso collares de metal.
La mayoría de animales habían muerto por lesiones
El 90% de los animales enterrados eran gatos, mientas que el 5% eran perros y otro 5% eran babuinos, lo que demuestra la predilección de esta sociedad por los felinos.
Llama la atención que la gran mayoría de estos animales presentaban lesiones o presentaban muestras de haber padecido enfermedades infecciosas, pero de todas estas muertes, ninguna parece haber estado relacionada con sacrificios o con prácticas rituales.
También es interesante observar que los animales que llegaban a viejos, generalmente carecían de buena parte de sus dientes, lo cual significaba que, si unimos la escasez de alimentos durante algunos periodos de esta época, también necesitaban un tipo de alimentación especial ya que no podían masticar ni alimentarse por sí mismos.
Según parece, las primeras investigaciones apuntan a que existía un fuerte vínculo emocional entre las personas y sus mascotas, además de que se observa que estos animales no estaban destinados a beneficios personales, es decir, a trabajar u obtener algún tipo de ventaja, ni tampoco los cuidaban como ofrenda para sus dioses, sino que realmente se trataba de animales que eran queridos por sus dueños.
