Tennessee legaliza romper las ventanillas de los coches si hay animales o niños encerrados dentro

Desde el pasado mes de abril, en el estado de Tennessee (EE.UU.) está permitido, por ley, romper la ventanilla de un automóvil si se descubre que hay niños o animales encerrados dentro y en peligro.

Este paso tan necesario en todo el mundo viene a ser la respuesta a un problema que deja cada día más víctimas. En las épocas de verano, muchas personas irresponsables dejan encerrados en el coche a sus hijos o a sus mascotas mientras ellos van a hacer recados, compras o incluso a pasar un rato en la playa. Dentro de un coche, al sol, quien queda encerrado sin posibilidad de salir por sus propios medios se convierte en vícitma de las altas temperaturas en muy poco tiempo, con muchas probabilidades de sufrir serios problemas físicos e incluso la muerte.

Debido a ello, cada día hay más personas que al descubrir casos así, se arriesgan a ser detenidos por vandalismo y rompen las ventanas de los coches para sacar a las víctimas. El problema, en este caso, es que la ley no les protege sino al contrario. Pero a partir de ahora, al menos en una pequeña parte del mundo, las víctimas de este tipo de maltrato tienen más posibilidades de sobrevivir si alguien les ve. Siempre que la persona "crea de buena fe que es necesario entrar por la fuerza en el vehículo porque el menor (o el animal) esté en peligro inminente" no será responsable de pagar los daños del coche.

Este tipo de casos se han puesto en el punto de mira de la atención mediática después de la muerte de un bebé de 22 meses por negligencia de su padre. Tras ser abandonado durante siete horas encerrado en el coche, el pequeño Cooper Harris murió asfixiado y por ello su padre se enfrentará al gran jurado por cargos de homicidio y maltrato infantil.

Leyes así son necesarias en todo el mundo, donde miles de padres irresponsables dejan a sus hijos o mascotas encerrados en el coche bajo el sol, deliberadamente. Esperemos que el resto de países tomen ejemplo de ello y la legislación se extienda para que nadie tenga dudas a la hora de ayudar a las víctimas de esta atrocidad.
